Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaker. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which provides commentary and videos on portrayals of women in popular cultural. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist for nearly a decade. Feminist Frequency is a site for education that examines women's role in the narratives of pop culture was the result of her research. She also serves as the director of operations. Dispelling stereotypes of women is the main goals of her work. But, she also explores the issue of targeted harassment against women online as well as other communities which have been left out. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Apart from being a popular public speaker, she has given presentations at TEDxWomen XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Feminist Frequency was created on the 9th of September 2009 by Sarkeesian, a University student who has been fascinated by issues related to gender and feminism for a considerable period of time. It was a girl with a dream to develop a series of web videos that would examine how gender is represented in video games. In the end, she ended up being the target of cyber-bullying.
